Former Football Great, Jorge Bolano Dies After Collapsing

According to the Bogota newspaper El Tiempo, former World Cup player Jorge Bolano passed away on Sunday, April 6, while attending a relative’s birthday celebration.

The 47 year-old died after being sent to a nearby clinic in an effort to save his life.

The former Lecce, Modena, and Parma great reportedly had a heart attack.

Following the news, Bolano has received a flood of tributes both domestically and internationally.

The Colombian Football Federation wrote in a statement:

‘With deep sorrow, we express our sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Jorge Eladio Bolano Correa, former Colombian Men’s National Team player, professional soccer player, and coach, who passed away this Sunday, April 6, in the city of Cucuta”.

Bolano was a member of Colombia’s 1998 World Cup team and played 36 times for the country.

Bolano helped Parma win the 2002 Coppa Italia, their final major trophy to date, during his eight years there, which included loan stints at Sampdoria and Leece.

Gianluigi Buffon and his teammates praised him as a “unforgettable buddy and team-mate.”

Parma’s tribute to Bolano:

‘Today, the whole of Parma Calcio extends condolences to the family of Jorge Bolano, who has passed away at 47-years-old, leaving an irreplaceable void.

‘Goodbye, Jorge. Forever Gialloblu,’ the Serie A side said.
