The four-day memorial service of the Former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings who passed on in November 2020, has started in Accra, Ghana.
The funeral rites began from Sunday January 24, and will go on till Wednesday 27 January where Ghana and the world will offer their last appreciation and say goodbye to the first President of the fourth Republic and the political leader who progressed Ghana from military rule to Democratic freedom and rights.
As a component of the general memorial service plan, there was a Requiem Mass held at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in his memory which was attended by political leaders, Rawlings’ children and family.
The children: Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Amina Agyeman-Rawlings, Kimathi Agyeman-Rawlings and Yaa Asantewaa Agyeman-Rawlings along with their mom and former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings were in tragic disposition all through the service as they grieve the painful exit of their father, spouse and guide.
Government officials including the President of the country, Nana Akufo-Addo, Vice President Bawumia and their companions were all in participation to say goodbye to the charismatic leader.
Former President John Mahama, politicians and several people were all present to say their final farewell. Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings passed on November 12, 2020, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana.
