Bayern have since taken full ownership of the stadium.
The venue organized the 2006 FIFA World Cup opening match between Germany and Costa Rica prior to hosting three further group matches as well as a series of 16 tie and France’s semi-final win against Portugal.
Since its opening, the stadium has seen its great deal of drama, including Chelsea’s penalty shootout victory over Bayern Munich in the Champions League final in 2012.
The Fußball Field München held three UEFA EURO 2020 group matches, all including Germany, in addition to possible champs Italy’s 2-1 quarter-final win against Belgium.
Since it is a venue for UEFA EURO 2024, it is the main arena in history to have games in successive UEFA European Titles. Its capacity for that competition will be 66,000.
