GFA Communications Director Shocked At Ghana’s AFCON Miss Out

Henry Asante Twum

Henry Asante Twum, the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) communications director, has expressed regret to Ghanaians for the Black Stars‘ inability to earn a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ghana had a dismal qualifying campaign, losing all six of their games, despite their legendary history as four-time AFCON champions.

With just three points from three losses and three draws, the team placed last in Group F. The Black Stars will miss the continental tournament for the first time in 20 years; their last absence occurred in 2004.

Following the team’s most recent 2-1 loss to Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium in the final round of qualifying, the fans’ annoyance increased.

Henry Asante Twum has therefore expressed regret to Ghanaians and fans worldwide for the embarrassment this has caused.

“I would like to apologize to Ghanaians for the massive disappointment of not qualifying for the AFCON,” Asante Twum told Asempa FM.

“I have followed the Black Stars for two decades, and I have not seen anything like this before. We went into qualifiers, played six games, and didn’t win a single one. I have never seen that before,” he added.

Ghana will now concentrate on getting ready for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which are scheduled to start next year, as they did not place in the top two of their group.
