Ghana And The UK Deepen Their Economic Growth Partnership

During a high-level discussion with UK Trade Envoy Bell Ribeiro-Addy MP and Akosua Dentaa Amoateng MBE, Ghana’s Finance Minister Hon. Cassiel Ato Forson (MP) underlined the nation’s commitment to deepening economic ties with the UK.

The Minister pointed out that continuing debt restructuring has caused important projects to be delayed and underlined the significance of concluding a bilateral agreement between the two countries.

In light of France’s commitment to a similar deal, he said he hoped the UK will soon follow suit, offering vital support for the projects’ quick start.

Opportunities for technical cooperation, especially in tax administration, were another topic of discussion. The Minister also aimed to learn from the UK’s effective VAT system and highlighted Ghana’s impending VAT reform.

Bell Ribeiro-Addy emphasized that the UK sees Ghana as a vital partner and reassured the Minister of the UK’s commitment to reestablishing its ties with Ghana.

The Minister praised these guarantees and said he was hopeful that the partnership will provide real results that would advance both countries’ economic development and growth.
