Ghana Hosts A Successful AI Project Meeting— Supported By Google

On July 19, 2024, the Deputy Minister for Communication and Digitalization Hon. Charles Acheampong (MP), took the place of the sector Minister Hon. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful (MP) in a round table discussion on artificial intelligence (AI) in Africa.

As part of a two-year research project with support from Google, the African Leadership University and Sand Technologies organized the program.

Sub-Saharan African AI policies, regulations, and cases were the focus of the meeting.

The AI Initiative:

The two-year research project will provide a comprehensive understanding of the upcoming applications of artificial intelligence (AI) in crucial sub-Saharan African sectors.

Zeroing in on Education, Agriculture, Health, and SME Enablement, the project will delve into three key areas within each sector:

• Exploring the possibilities that can be unlocked by AI in each sector

• Exploring barriers and challenges to successful deployment of AI in each sector

• Developing practical policy and practice recommendations to realize the potential benefit of AI in each sector

In attendance were the Chief Executive Director of Data Protection Commission, Ms. Patricia Adusei-Poku, staff of MoCD, and representatives from Academia, Researchers, Private Sector and Civil Society.
