The Black Satellites, Ghana’s U-20 national side, have regrettably failed to qualify for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year. This stemmed from a loss to host Egypt in the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarterfinals.
The score after extra-time was 2-2, but the Egyptians defeated Ghana 5–4 on penalties.
The four semi-finalists of the U-20 AFCON receive automatic slots in the FIFA U-20 World Cup, which is the African qualifying tournament.
After finishing first in Group C with seven points, winning two games and drawing one, and giving up just one goal during the group round, Ghana went to the quarterfinals.
A win for the Black Satellites would have guaranteed them a berth in the semi-finals and World Cup qualification.

Ghana has missed out on qualifying for the U-20 World Cup five times in a row; their most recent appearance was in 2015.
The Black Satellites have had difficulty making a comeback to the international scene in recent years, even though they are the only African country to have won the competition, having done so in 2009.
Fans and players alike are clearly disappointed, especially in light of the team’s impressive group stage performance. In the future, the coaching staff and the Ghana Football Association will probably concentrate on rebuilding and preparing for future competitions to restore the nation’s prominence in youth football.
