A number of noteworthy projects and initiatives have been outlined by the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) for 2025:
• Exploration in the Voltarian Basin is one of them. In 2025, the business plans to start drilling its first exploration well in the Voltaian Basin. With its promising geological features, this onshore basin, which spans more than 100,000 square kilometers, is regarded as a potential “game changer” for Ghana’s energy sector. To gain a better understanding of the basin’s potential, GNPC has spent more than $160 million on seismic data acquisition.
• Pecan Phase 1A Upstream Project: In collaboration with partners such as Aker Energy and Lukoil, GNPC is advancing the ultra-deepwater Pecan Phase 1A Upstream Project. This project, which is presently awaiting approval, is anticipated to start commercial production in 2025 and add to Ghana’s oil production.
• Petroleum Hub Development: In an effort to establish Ghana as a major force in the petroleum industry in West Africa, the Ghanaian government has started construction on a $12 billion petroleum hub in Jomoro. The project aims to meet the region’s refined petroleum needs by 2036 by building petrochemical plants and an oil refinery that can produce 300,000 barrels per day.

This project is in line with the country’s larger energy goals, even though GNPC is not the main developer.
These initiatives demonstrate GNPC’s dedication to improving Ghana’s energy production and infrastructure in the upcoming years.
