Africa is scheduled to host the Africa Games in Ghana next year. Consequently, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee for the 2023 Africa Games, is beaming with confidence that Ghana will stage the greatest Africa Games ever.
Ghana will play host to the Games for the absolute first time since it began in 1965, and a 50,000 Olympic stadium is under construction at Borteyman, while facilities at the University of Ghana – like the stadium, rugby fields and diaspora corridors, are getting facelifts ahead of of the competition in March 2024.
Despite public concerns that Ghana might lose its hosting rights due to the speed of work, the university stadium has been estimated to be “almost” 70% complete, while other facilities have completion scores of 80% and 85%, respectively.
As per the LOC chairman Dr. Ofosu-Asare, the government of Ghana is so dedicated to hosting this Games, thus speeding up preparations.
Due to the organizers’ sluggish preparations, many nations were close to dropping out of the competition; however, the LOC has reassured everyone that everything will be done with 100% commitment in talks with the government.
Subsequently, construction works are on course for the games, and will be one of the most incredible ever, according to organizers. Up until this point, work in progress are steadily progressing, with all facilities for the games including the grasses, stadia, rugby fields, renovations, student hostels and others ongoing.
The University of Ghana’s continuing students will take a break for the first semester on February 4, 2024, as part of the ongoing project, so that the rooms can be finished before the athletes arrive. The games is anticipated to be one of the best organized events.
Officials say everything is on track, and will make sure the contractors finish the facilities on time so that they can conduct tests. The contractor did say that the stadium is almost 70% done, and some other facilities are at 80%. The Games village is practically 85% complete.
