Ghana Tourism Authority Recognized For An Outstanding African Initiative

At the 25th GOGE Africa Festival in Lagos, Nigeria, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) received the Outstanding Tourism Event in Africa award in recognition of its groundbreaking “Year of Return” and “Beyond the Return” initiatives.

On October 27, 2024, the Mobolaji Johnson Arena (Onikan Stadium) hosted the award presentation.

Mr. Moses Ndewin Ndebugri, Director of the Upper West Region, and Mr. Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi, Deputy Director of Domestic Marketing, accepted the award on behalf of the Authority alongside GTA CEO Mr. Akwasi Agyeman.

The impact of Ghana’s initiatives, which have highlighted African heritage, bonded the diaspora, and made Ghana a top destination for cultural tourism, is celebrated with this recognition.

Ghana has promoted pan-African unity and global cultural ties through these initiatives.

Over 20,000 people from 32 countries attended the GOGE Africa Festival, which celebrated African heritage through parades, exhibitions, music, dance, and culinary arts. The festival’s theme was Symphony of Cultures.

Speaking about Nigeria’s strategic importance as Africa’s biggest market, Mr. Kusi also discussed plans to step up Ghana’s tourism marketing initiatives.

He conveyed gratitude to the GTA leadership and stakeholders for their commitment to promoting tourism in Ghana.

Ghana’s dedication to advancing Africa through the “Beyond the Return” initiative, which builds on the success of the “Year of Return,” was also praised by festival founders Mr. Isaac Moses and Mrs. Nneka Moses.

Over 1.18 million people visited in 2019, thanks to this historic initiative, and “Beyond the Return” is still going strong under GTA’s direction, emphasizing the development of enduring cultural and business relationships across its seven strategic pillars.
