Ghana Wins Important Positions In The AU Elections

Ghana rejoiced after three of its candidates who ran for the country won handily in Thursday’s African Union elections in Addis Ababa.

Ambassador Jane Gasu Aheto was appointed to the African Union Commission on International Law (AUCIL), while Ambassador Amma A. Twum-Amoah was named the Union’s Commissioner.

Kwami Edem Senanu, an attorney, was also elected to the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) again.

In addition to making speeches at UN Security Council discussions, Ambassador Aheto has been actively involved in international legal affairs.

She was instrumental in hosting the second UNCITRAL Days in Africa in November 2023, demonstrating Ghana’s dedication to international trade law.

Ambassador Aheto’s contributions to international law and wealth of experience make her an invaluable asset to AUCIL.

In contrast, attorney Kwami Edem Senanu was elected again to the African Union Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) for the 2025–2027 term. This accomplishment contributed to Ghana’s noteworthy victory in the most recent African Union elections, which were held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and saw the nation win three important seats. The African Union’s trust in his knowledge and dedication to promoting anti-corruption efforts among its member states is demonstrated by his reelection.

Ghana seems to be the only country to have accomplished this so far.

However, the appointees praised President John Mahama, the Foreign Ministry, Ghana’s Mission in Addis Ababa, and their campaign team for helping them accomplish this.
