Ghana Would Now Represent West Africa At The 2023 CHAN

Ghana grabbed CHAN ticket from the Super Eagles of Nigeria with 5-4 penalty win after to eliminating Nigeria from the impendingWorld Cup.

Nigeria’s locally-based national football team experienced a 5-4 loss on penalties to the Black Galaxies of Ghana on Saturday, September 3, 2022.

The Super Eagles experienced a 2-0 loss away against the Black Galaxies in the first leg African Nations Championships (CHAN) held in Cape Coast Ghana last week.

Two second half goals from Daniel Afriyie and Seidu Suraj gave the Black Galaxies a good run against the Super Eagles.

The first leg was played at a 60,000-capacity MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja-Nigeria.

The locally-based Nigerians who included players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) didn’t begin the game with desperation and went to the halftime break level, but trailed on aggregate.

The Super Eagles began the second half with better power and got a goal in the 76th minute through Zulkifilu Muhammed.

The Nigerians were all the while trailing on aggregate and with their CHAN crusade set to be over, but Rivers United star Chijioke Akuneto scored in extra time.

With the score level 2-2 on total the game went into additional time to decide the winner through spot-kicks.

The Super Eagles missed one spot kick as the Black Galaxies scored every one of their kicks over completely to take home a 5-4 triumph.

The Black Galaxies would now represent West Africa at the 2023 CHAN planned to take place in Algeria.

The result also implies that Ghana has eliminated with Nigeria two times at the MKO Abiola Stadium.

The Ghanaians beat the Super Eagles on aggregate to book a ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
