Ghanaians Cautioned Against Visa Fraud Ahead Of The World Cup

Myriam Montra

The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Myriam Montra, has advised Ghanaians planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States to start their visa applications as early as possible and to avoid fraudulent agents.

Speaking to journalists in Accra, Commissioner Montra stressed that early application is the surest way to secure a visa without last-minute stress, especially with expected high demand ahead of the tournament.

She said, major events like the World Cup trigger a global surge in visa applications. Therefore, applying well in advance gives you the best chance of success.

She issued a strong warning against so-called “visa agents” and middlemen who claim to fast-track applications for a fee.

“Let me be very clear: the High Commission of Canada does not work with any agents or third parties. Anyone promising to speed up your application for money is a scammer,” Montra stated.

All legitimate applications must be submitted directly through the official Government of Canada website (www.canada.ca) or authorized Visa Application Centres (VACs).

The High Commissioner encouraged football fans to rely only on information from official sources, including the High Commission’s website and verified social media channels, to avoid falling victim to fraud.

“We want Ghanaians to enjoy the World Cup, but the only safe and reliable way is through the official process,” she added.

With the World Cup less than a year away, Ghanaian supporters are urged to begin preparing their travel documents now to ensure a smooth and scam-free journey.
