Ghana’s Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Honourable Dakoa Newman, has made the announcement that the government has begun the necessary steps to ensure that the Ghana School Feeding Programme’s entire process is digitalized.
The program will never again depend on the manual system but will before long be on an Information System to deal with the whole cycle. The selection of caterers, data collection, and payment modules will all be managed by the system.
She emphasized that the digitalized system, which looks to expand effectiveness and transparency in the program’s tasks will start in September 2024 – 2025 academic years.
She stated,
“We are moving away from a manual system to an online system, where everything will be done electronically, this will help us to streamline the process, reduce duplication, and increase accountability”, she stated.
To be considered for the program, prospective caterers would need to submit an online application, pay a fee of GH 200 cedis, and create a profile, according to the minister. Dakoa Newman said Caterers would also need to give details including health certificates, business operating permit, declare financial capabilities among others.
She emphasized that the digital system would provide immediate updates, making it easier for the Ministry to keep track of progress.
“It’s going to give us real time update, we will know today the number of caterers who cooked, without having to wait till the end of the term,” she emphasized.
The Minister also announced that the system would be piloted in the New Juaben South and Krachi East districts before it will be rolled out nationwide.
