Security Strategist and a member of Kennedy Agyapong Campaign team Palgrave Boakye-Danquah has raised serious concerns about Ghana’s security situation, stating that the country “is not safe” when it comes to the proliferation of firearms.
Speaking on Angel FM on Wednesday, November 19, Boakye-Danquah criticized the current approach of the Ministry of the Interior, which has asked citizens to voluntarily surrender illegal firearms. He argued that such strategy is unlikely to work because individuals who possess illegal weapons are not likely to turn them in out of goodwill.
According to him, the call for voluntary compliance is “insufficient,” and security agencies must actively pursue individuals who are in possession of unauthorized firearms. He stressed that without deliberate enforcement efforts, those keeping illegal guns will simply hide them, further endangering national security.

He noted that the presence of unregistered firearms in communities continues to pose a threat, contributing to robberies, violent crimes, and growing insecurity. Boakye-Danquah therefore urged authorities to shift from passive appeals to strategic operations, intelligence-led tracking, and stricter enforcement to clamp down on illegal weapon holders.
He said, there is the need for stronger action to curb the circulation of illegal guns in the country.
