FIFA President Gianni Infantino has visited FIFA World Cup 2026 Host City Vancouver. He visited the arena that will host seven matches at the most comprehensive FIFA World Cup yet.
Following his visit to another FIFA World Cup 2026 Host City, Seattle, Mr Infantino traveled north across the US Canada boundary to see with his own eyes how arrangements are advancing in Vancouver ahead of the pivotal 48-team competition.
As the venue for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 final, BC Spot Vancouver will welcome five group stage games as FIFA’s senior men’s global football competition comes to Canada for the first time.
The matches will include Canada’s second and third group encounters, while a Round of 32 fixture and a Round of 16 tie will also be played at the venue.
The Toronto Stadium – which is important for the 16 Host Urban areas for the competition will co-host with Mexico and the US.
“The World Cup 2026 is coming to Canada, to the United States and to Mexico and it’s coming to Vancouver as well. I had the chance to visit the stadium; it’s really fantastic – a lot of work going on as well to make it even more beautiful. 55,000 fans will fill the stadium during the World Cup,” said the FIFA President.
Gianni Infantino toured the BC Place Vancouver with Canada’s Minister of Sport and Physical Activity, The Honourable Carla Qualtrough MP, who was accompanied by the Deputy Minister Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport of Canada, Neilane Mayhew, the Mayor of Vancouver, Ken Sim, and FIFA Vice-President and Concacaf President, Victor Montagliani.
Also in participation were a few other officials including the Executive Director of Vancouver FIFA World Cup 2026 Local Organizing Committee, Axel Shuster.
“Seven games, two games at least of the Canadian national team and the world will be welcomed here,” Mr Infantino continued. “I had the pleasure to meet the Minister of Sport of Canada, the Mayor of Vancouver, two exceptional people. The whole team of the host city Vancouver: fantastic people, a football or soccer city and I’m looking forward already now to the World Cup in 2026.”
