In his administration, President John Mahama has declared that government appointees will no longer be permitted to travel in first class.
According to President Mahama, humility and regard for the Ghanaian people will characterize his administration.
On Friday, February 7, 2025, at the Jubilee House, he said this while ministers were being sworn in.
The President said, in order to cut government spending, he has directed the Chief of Staff to formally inform ministers and government appointees about an immediate ban on non-essential travel.
“Any travel that is deemed essential and necessary must be cleared first with the Office of the Chief of Staff and such travels will have to be taken in modesty no first class,” he said.
He also made it clear that he would not tolerate arrogance in his administration.
President Mahama asserts that the resources his appointees will use are the property of the Ghanaians who elected them to office. Therefore, these resources shouldn’t be squandered on luxury or extravagance.
