Helicopter Crash Mystery: Sabotage On The Table – Col. Aboagye Says

Col. Festus Aboagye (Rtd.)

While conspiracy theories regarding the August 6 military helicopter crash are to be expected, security expert Colonel Festus Aboagye (Rtd.) asserts that in order to determine the actual cause, investigators must concentrate on the facts.

This will be the only option, Colonel Aboagye stated in an August 16 interview with TV3.

“There is no devil that suddenly brought the aircraft down. Sabotage is possible, but it must be proven. Fortunately, this isn’t like past incidents where the first assumption would be that the aircraft was deliberately brought down,” he said.

Investigators will look into whether sabotage or hostile fire were involved, he said, but such allegations can only be supported by concrete proof.

All security agencies will probably be required to “keep their ears to the ground” for any intelligence pointing in that direction, Colonel Aboagye continued.

He also discussed the Air Force’s leadership structure, which forbids meddling in mission decisions.

“Once the pilot is in charge, only air traffic control and Air Force bases at Accra or Kumasi can issue directions. No minister, no passenger, nobody else can change his decision on where to land,” he clarified.

He went on to explain how a pilot would circle the designated landing spot in the event of a diversion before determining whether to land somewhere else.

The public should have faith in the current probe, which will include environmental, human, and technical elements, the retired colonel emphasized.
