How Ghana Was Able To Save $250 Million Through The National Gas Limited Company

According to Dr. Ben K.D. Asante, the CEO of Ghana National Gas Limited Company, his company has saved the country $250 million since 2017 by employing over 1,000 people, indigenizing operations at its gas processing plant, and giving local engineers vital skills.

He continued by saying that Ghana Gas Limited Company currently supplies 20% of the country’s total thermal capacity thanks to infrastructure like the Anokyi Mainline Compressor Station and the Karpowership Gas Pipeline, guaranteeing dependable power for households and businesses nationwide.

Speaking at the Minister’s Press Briefing in Accra was Dr. Ben K.D. Asante, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said since 2017, the company has shown its dedication to developing local expertise and promoting national development.

According to Dr. Ben Asante, Ghana Gas completely indigenized the operations and maintenance of its Gas Processing Plant (GPP) and related pipelines in April 2017. This initiative has also resulted in the creation of numerous jobs, including contract and permanent positions.

He added that maintenance and certification milestones are also a part of the company’s success.

“Post-indigenization, we have completed three major shutdowns and maintenance projects and achieved ISO 45001: 2018 certification for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems”, the CEO added.

He said Ghana Gas is also working toward environmental management system ISO 14001 certification.

Dr. Ben Asante added that the supply network of Ghana Gas Limited Company, which serves industrial clients like Wangkang Ceramic, Sentuo Refinery, and Twyford/Keda Ceramic, has been essential for industrial growth and power generation.

“We enable the supply of gas for industrial heating and power, benefiting both Eastern and Western industrial enclaves,” he stated.

The CEO stated that the Anokyi Mainline Compressor Station’s construction has guaranteed effective gas transmission from Atuabo to Kumasi and beyond, as well as increased compression capacity.

The 10-kilometer gas pipeline project from Takoradi Distribution Station to the Karpowership at Sekondi Naval Base, he noted, makes a substantial contribution to Ghana’s electricity supply, fulfilling 20% of the country’s energy needs.

He concluded by saying that this infrastructure greatly lowers fuel costs while meeting 26% of Ghana’s electricity needs.
