During an interview with renowned sports host Bright Kankam Boadu (B.K.B.), Kwesi Appiah, the coach of the Sudanese national team, discussed a number of topics related to his coaching experience in Sudan.
But he did touch on a few things, including the contract he received from Sudan to manage the national team after running a club there in the Northeast African country.
Kwesi Appiah said, when he initially got the contract, it was vague and lacked a significant target. He thus established a goal for himself and informed the Sudanese FA officials of his plans.
His goal was to earn a spot in both the World Cup and the upcoming Cup of Nations. Since these targets were currently outside of their dreams, the officials were taken aback.
On the other hand, they fully support Appiah if he is elevating their expectations to that degree. Kwasi Appiah went on to say that the fact that they fully support the coach and leave everything in their hands, free from outside or internal interference, is what makes working at Sudan exciting and comfortable.
Following discussions with the Sudan FA, Kwesi Appiah and the officials revised the entire contract once more before signing it. He added additional terms and clauses to help him work toward that major goal.
In the meantime, Sudan easily qualified for the AFCON, which will take place in Morocco next year. Under coach Kwesi Appiah’s leadership, the team is also driven and ready to make it to the FIFA World Cup in 2026.
