President John Dramani Mahama formally launched the “Adwumawura” Program at Kumasi’s Prempeh Assembly Hall on April 28, 2025. In Ghana, this flagship project seeks to address youth unemployment and encourage entrepreneurship.
The program’s goal is to assist Ghanaians between the ages of 18 and 35 in starting and expanding their own companies. It provides all-encompassing support, which includes equipment distribution, mentorship, start-up funding access, and skill training.
With a four-year target of 40,000 firms, “Adwumawura” seeks to establish and coach at least 10,000 youth-led businesses annually.
Additionally, the program places a high priority on inclusivity, allocating at least 60% of its funding to women, people with disabilities, youth without jobs, school dropouts, and those from areas affected by war. Former illegal miners, often known as galamseyers, receive special attention in order to assist them in establishing sustainable livelihoods.
The program’s viability and efficacy are guaranteed by its full funding of GH₵100 million from the national budget for 2025.
To further encourage young employment, the government intends to introduce the National Apprenticeship Programme in addition to “Adwumawura,” which will provide free technical and vocational training.
The Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment’s National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) is in charge of the initiative.
George Opare Addo, the minister of employment, advised young people to seize the chances offered by “Adwumawura” and underlined the government’s dedication to fostering an atmosphere that encourages youth entrepreneurship.
