Jordan Chiles has finally spoken about her Olympic bronze medal which was taken away from her after the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) deprived the U.S. gymnast of her medal at Paris 2024.

The 23-year-old posted a lengthy statement regarding the issue on Instagram on Thursday, August 15.

“I have no words. This decision feels unjust and comes as a significant blow, not just to me but to everyone who has championed my journey,” the 23-year-old wrote in a statement shared on Instagram Thursday.

“To add to the heartbreak, the unprompted racially driven attacks on social media are wrong and extremely hurtful. I’ve poured my heart and soul into this sport, and I am so proud to represent my culture and my country.”

Chiles went through baffling periods to and fro of requests with the Olympic boards of trustees on this issue during the Paris Summer Games on August 5.

The Olympian, who also won gold in Paris with Simone Biles, Hezley Rivera, Jade Carey, and Sunisa Lee in the team competition, said she is now facing one of her toughest challenges ever.

“I am incredibly grateful to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, USAG, and the USOPC for their unwavering support during this difficult time,” Chiles shared before concluding, “I will approach this challenge as I have others—and I will make every effort to ensure that justice is done.”

“I believe that at the end of this journey, the people in control will do the right thing.”

Cecile Landi, Chiles’ coach, was found to have requested a review of her score during the final four seconds late by CAS last week. An emphasis was changed as a result of the inquiry, which was accepted at the time, and she received the bronze medal.

The ruling was challenged by the Romanian National Olympic Committee, which set off a series of events that led to the request that Chiles return the medal to Romanian gymnast Ana Bărbosu, who had previously finished third in the competition.

USA Gymnastics provided time-stamped video evidence demonstrating that Chiles’ coach submitted the inquiry well within the one-minute time limit of 47 seconds. The court, on the other hand, maintained that its rules prevent it from revising its decisions, even in light of new evidence.
