I Have Never Stolen Nor Taken A Bribe In My Life— Attorney General

Dr. Dominic Ayine

On April 30, 2025, Dr. Dominic Ayine, Ghana’s Attorney General and Minister of Justice, categorically disputed the accusations of corruption made against him, declaring that he has never in his professional life taken a bribe or embezzled money from the public coffers.

Ayine addressed mounting worries and media conjecture about recent investigations against top government officials during a press conference in Accra on Wednesday. “With much conviction,” he said,

“In my entire life, I have never stolen or accepted a bribe.”

He continued by characterizing the charges as politically driven and intended to damage his reputation.

“I have served this country with integrity and dedication. Any attempt to associate my name with corruption is not only false but deeply offensive,” Ayine told reporters.

He also vowed to fully cooperate with any legitimate investigations and urged anyone with proof of misconduct to bring it to the proper authorities.

Press representatives, attorneys, and senior Ministry of Justice officials attended the press conference. Ayine underlined his dedication to respecting the rule of law and preserving the justice system’s openness.

Although the Attorney General could not identify the source of the accusations, political observers think they might be related to recent conflicts between opposition leaders and the administration, particularly after his agency started a number of audits and procurement reviews.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has yet to comment on whether Ayine is officially under investigation. Meanwhile, civil society organizations are calling for thorough and impartial inquiries into all corruption allegations involving public officials.

Dr. Dominic Ayine, a legal scholar and former deputy attorney general, was appointed to the top justice position earlier this year amid efforts to strengthen legal reforms and restore public trust in the judiciary.
