India Is The Most Populous Nation In The World

The United Nations predicts that India will have a population of 1.4286 billion people by the middle of 2023, surpassing China’s 1.4257 billion people.

India’s population has continued to rise while China’s dropped for the first time in decades last year.

The data are now displayed in the World Population Dashboard maintained by the United Nations, which was last updated on April 19.

As China’s population growth has slowed, with the number of people living there falling for the first time since the early 1960s, the overtake has been widely anticipated.

The U.N. has recently estimated China’s populace will decline to 1.313 billion by 2050 and fall under 800 million by 2100.

The country’s longstanding one-child policy, which was changed to two in 2016 and three in 2021, is said to have contributed to the decline, according to experts.

The “special administrative regions” of Hong Kong and Macao, with a combined population of 0.7 million, are not included in the U.N. figures.

India’s populace growth has arrived at the midpoint of 1.2% beginning around 2011, down from 1.7% the earlier ten years, as indicated by government information refered to by Reuters.

26% of the population in the United Nations is between the ages of 10 and 24, compared to 18% in China.

The United Nations Population Fund warns against erasing human rights and autonomy in discussions regarding whether population growth is a concern in its State of World Population 2023 report, which was released on Wednesday.

“Human reproduction is neither the problem nor the solution” to challenges such as climate change, pandemics, conflicts, mass displacement and economic uncertainty, said the body’s Executive Director Natalia Kanem.
