The Ashanti Regional Communications Director of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the CEO of Social Investment Fund (SIF), Abass Nurudeen Esq., has justified the recent search of Chairman Wontumi’s residence by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and National Security.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s ‘Ekosii Sen’ on Monday, May 26, 2025, Nurudeen challenged those criticizing the search, asking whether Chairman Wontumi, a leading figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is above the law.
According to him, no one is beyond the reach of state security agencies when investigations are ongoing, and political affiliation should not be used as a shield. He emphasized that the rule of law must prevail, regardless of a person’s status or party position.
Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is a powerful and controversial political figure within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
As the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, his influence in the region — a traditional stronghold for the NPP — is significant, especially with the 2024 elections still fresh in memory and power dynamics shifting ahead of 2028.

Abass Nurudeen’s core message centered on the principle of equality before the law. He questioned why the search should generate outrage or be viewed as politically motivated, rhetorically asking.
He framed the incident not as an attack on a political figure, but as a routine investigative action, implying that public figures — especially those wielding significant influence — should expect scrutiny if there are grounds for it.
