Israeli Ambassador Set To Have A Strong Working Relationship With KNUST

The recently appointed Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, Roey Gilad paid a courtesy call on Professor David Asamoah, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, with his wife Mrs. Nitza Gilad.

The Ambassador’s familiarization tour included the meeting, which took place in the University’s Council Chamber on December 12, 2024. The purpose of the visit was to promote strategic academic collaborations between KNUST and Israeli institutions with an emphasis on innovation and knowledge sharing.

Professor Eric Appau Asante, the director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre (KEC), pointed out that Ambassador Gilad had selected KNUST as the first university to visit after taking office in September 2024, highlighting the university’s standing as a vital partner in fostering academic and developmental partnerships.

KNUST is “the crème de la crème of universities in Ghana,” according to Ambassador Roey Gilad, who expressed his excitement about the opportunity to visit.

The Ambassador reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to working with KNUST in fields like agriculture and the humanities, despite the difficulties caused by financial limitations brought on by the country’s ongoing conflicts.

“What you have here deserves a partnership with us, and we are eager to establish a partnership with KNUST,” he stated.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor David Asamoah, also emphasized the university’s leadership in Ghanaian science and technology education.

He emphasized KNUST’s dedication to forming beneficial alliances in order to tackle global issues like digital education and sustainable agriculture. Additionally, he praised Israel’s progress in commercial agriculture and voiced hope for future partnerships in this field.

Professor Daniel Y.A. Duah, dean of the International Programs Office (IPO), said the visit was a good chance to improve relations between KNUST and Israel.

He suggested formalizing the collaboration with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that would concentrate on important topics like faculty and student exchanges, collaborative research projects, and developments in online education.
