Samuel Dubik Mahama, the former managing director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has responded to claims that cargos at Ghana’s ports had gone missing.
Mahama said that it is alarming when containers disappear at the port in an interview with Osei Bonsu (OB) on Asempa FM’s “Ekosii Sen.” He emphasized that every container has a unique identifying number that makes it simple to track it down.
He also questioned if the authorities used only physical counts or if the tracking numbers were used to find the containers.
Mahama further defended former Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) and the former Board Chairman Alexander Afenyo-Markin, arguing that it is unjust to blame them for the missing containers problem.
He called the accusations a “witch-hunt” and explained that ECG should not be held accountable once containers are in the possession of Customs and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).

These remarks follow demands for the immediate arrest of Afenyo-Markin, Opoku Prempeh, and Mahama in connection with the disappearance of more than 1,300 ECG canisters made by Mustapha Gbande, Deputy Director in charge of Operations at the Presidency.
Regarding the missing containers, which included essential electrical equipment meant for the country’s power distribution, Gbande underlined the necessity of accountability.
