“It Won’t Be Easy For Lionel Messi In MLS”

On Sunday, July 16, an exquisite unveiling of Messi took place at the DRV PNK Stadium of Inter Miami in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

In an interview with The Times of London, D.C United manager Wayne Rooney said numerous players show up in MLS and battle to adjust and that Messi might be the same.

“Everything is set for him. He’s got all his mates over! [Sergio] Busquets and Jordi Alba have signed for Inter Miami and maybe [Andres] Iniesta will join them. Luis Suarez too. Messi has a coach [Inter Miami manager Tata Martino] he likes and trusts. It’s huge, especially with what’s going on in Saudi, for the MLS to attract Messi”, Rooney said.

“He won’t find it easy here. It sounds mad, but players who come in find it’s a tough league. The travelling, the different conditions in different cities, and there’s a lot of energy and intensity on the pitch.” he added.

After 14 years with United, Rooney played 52 games and scored 25 goals for D.C. United over a two-year period from 2018 to 2020. He returned as manager in July of last year.
