For artists worldwide, trolling, backbiting, and controversies have been a big issue. Over the course of the years, this practice has wounded the sentiments of numerous musicians, including one of Ghana’s finest singer Efya.
The same thing has been occurring in Ghana, and according to Efya the conduct of some internet users is extremely harmful to many musicians, including herself.
The multiple award-winning singer shared her thoughts on X, arguing that the system is addicted to controversy and that articles should have headlines that highlight success rather than the negativity they portray.
On Monday April 7, she wrote on X:
“It’s almost like the system is addicted to controversy. And it’s toxic. It’s toxic for the artists, it’s toxic for the culture, and it’s toxic for the future of the industry”.
“Why can’t we make it cool to uplift? Why can’t success be the headline?”
“The energy we give to negativity—we could give that same energy to growth, creativity, legacy. But we choose clout over contribution”.
