It’s Urgent To Protect The Rights Of Content Creators— Nana Kwame Bediako

Nana Kwame Bediako, more commonly known as Cheddar, the leader of the New Force Movement, has stated that there is a need to protect and empower Ghana’s content creators.

During the launch of his party’s manifesto, Nana Kwame Bediako said it is important to protect the rights of content creators.

In his vision for the future, Cheddar emphasized the significance of IP rights and the development of infrastructure to support Ghana’s creative industries.

Cheddar talked about the deficiencies of the current system, expressing that, Royalties are not being well collected in light of the fact that, there’s no structure for the machine.

“Today, the New Force has decided to build the right machine for pushing the Publishing Act that protects the IP of our content creators.”, he said.

He focused on the significance of protecting the privileges of various creators, including bloggers, influencers, YouTubers, authors, painters, musicians, and software developers.

Cheddar went on to say,

“We have to protect it, we have to claim the royalties, and we have to make sure that it’s circulating in our economy because they are part of us,”

He also said that artists need to keep ownership of their catalogs so that they can’t be sold for patents.

He proposed the construction of a world-class studio in Ghana, envisioning it as a center for African creativity, in addition to IP protection.

“Ghana is the Black Star of Africa; this studio needs to be in Ghana. We need to build that studio,” he asserted, positioning the country as a leader in the creative arts on the continent.

Cheddar’s manifesto launch places creative industries at the forefront of his party’s agenda. The proposed initiatives aim to not only protect content creators’ rights but also to support Ghana’s economy by ensuring that royalties and creative outputs benefit the nation directly.
