
Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, has chosen career diplomat Ambassador Jalel Trabelsi to serve as his Special Envoy for the Middle East, North Africa, and Gulf Region (MENA).
Over 30 years of experience as a highly accomplished and distinguished diplomat are brought to the position by Ambassador Trabelsi.
Trabelsi will assist in fostering diplomatic and strategic engagements within the MENA and Gulf Region as Special Envoy, focusing on the Bank’s strategic priorities, strengthening partnerships, and scaling up the mobilization of resources from the public and private sectors to deliver transformative projects in Africa.
The Tunisian’s career is set apart by critical roles and commitments. He was the Ambassador of Tunisia to Nigeria, Ghana, Benin, Sierra Leone, and the Economic Community of West Africa (Ecowas). He also held the position of Minister Plenipotentiary F.C. for African Affairs.
In addition, he held positions as Dean of the Council of Arab Ambassadors, Adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Head of the National Commission for Tunisia’s African Development Bank Presidency candidacy.
He also teaches Diplomatic International Law at the university level and is a specialist in international law.

Ambassador Trabelsi holds a Advance Masters in Maritime and Aviation Law from Belgium’s Université Libre de Bruxelles, where he embraced his University degree in political theory and international relations and passed with the most noteworthy distinctions. Additionally, he holds a Master of Political Science degree from the University of Tunis. He is multilingual with familiarity with English, French, and Arabic.
Ambassador Trabelsi commented on his appointment, saying:
