Jamaica’s players wildly celebrated after qualifying for the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup by drawing with Brazil at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium in Australia on August 2.
The Reggae Girlz were the second team on Wednesday to earn qualification for the knockout stages out of the blue following a 0-0 draw against Brazil.
Additionally, it signifies that Jamaica is the first nation from the Caribbean to reach the knockout stages, something that was unthinkable prior to the tournament.
Nigeria Fit The Bill To The Knockout Stages
On the field, the entire Jamaican team and coaching staff were celebrating, some of them in tears.
Brazil’s players, on the other hand, appeared stunned, especially captain Marta, who was making her final World Cup appearance. This is the first time in quite a while that Brazil has failed to traverse the group stages.
