
Energy Capital & Power (ECP), Africa’s leading energy investment platform, has announced that James Chester will take over as CEO on June 26, 2024.
Chester is ECP’s Senior Director and Co-Founder. He has worked in events, strategic communications, custom publishing, and investment promotion in the fastest-growing markets in Africa.
He fills in as Project lead for the South Sudan Oil & Power conference – ECP’s longest-running event – and Libya Energy and Economic Summit, working intimately with key government and private sector stakeholders to showcase national investment opportunities and deliver measurable results.
James Chester has successfully introduced American companies to African investment opportunities through the first US-Africa Energy Forum in 2021 and subsequent events in Houston, including the Angola Oil & Gas networking event earlier this year. He has also played a crucial role in establishing a connection between the two regions.
He is tasked with continuing to innovate and develop new strategies to attract global capital, technology, and knowledge to Africa’s energy sector. He is also expected to adapt to the changing landscape of energy investment and drive industry growth and development.

James Chester was appointed for his extensive market knowledge, solid financial acumen, and long-term dedication to the company. He has led ECP projects in South Sudan, Libya, and the United States, and he has also been active in each of our departments. As a result, he knows the business inside and out, and he will undoubtedly give the company’s current product and service offerings new ideas and direction.
The appointment comes as ECP puts together a dynamic schedule of events for 2024, including the Luanda Angola Oil & Gas Conference on October 2 and 3; On December 3-4, the MSGBC Oil, Gas, and Power conference in Dakar; In conjunction with the African Energy Chamber and the Libya Energy&Economic Summit in Tripoli on January 18–19, 2025, African Energy Week will be held in Cape Town from November 4–8.
