Former employees and sympathizers of GN Bank/Savings Ghana have voiced their faith in President-elect John Dramani Mahama’s resolve to fulfill his pledge to reestablish GN Bank/Savings and other financial institutions that were wrongfully shut down by the NPP government led by Akufo-Addo during the banking sector cleanup.
“We are encouraged by your commitment to restore the indigenous financial institutions that were unjustifiably dismantled. Your promise to revive GN (Savings) bank, some of the defunct banks, along with several Savings and Loans and Fund Management companies resonate deeply with our aspirations for economic recovery and stability” the group stated in a press statement issued on 17th December, 2024 in Accra and signed by the Convener Philip Sarpiah.
“We acknowledge the significant challenges faced by our nation due to the 2019 banking crisis, which had devastating effects on millions of Ghanaians. The action taken by the previous administration led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo – Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Finance Minister Ken Ofori – Atta have left a deep and lasting impact on our financial landscape” the statement read.
The outgoing government shut down GN Bank, which had three hundred branches. The group claimed that Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom’s bank was helpful to the country’s socioeconomic advancement.
