John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says he will smooth out the presidential part of government by reducing the number of ministers to 60 if he wins the forthcoming elections in December.
Speaking at the manifesto launch in Winneba in the Central region on Saturday August 24, Mahama said he has a dream for a more productive and powerful government structure.
He wants to address worries about the size and cost of the current bureau or cabinet, which has been scrutinized for being unreasonably enormous and costly. By cutting down the number of ministers, Mahama said he can make a more engaged and responsible administration.
“I will remarkably reduce the size of government to sixty ministers. And so there will be other assignments for others to do. We will also bridge the disparity between Article 71 holders and those with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission so that all of us come under an independent emolument committee, so they determine the salaries of a watchman to the president”, Mahama said.
Additionally, he vowed to handle corruption, work on open administrations, and upgrade economic growth. As a result, he intends to demonstrate his dedication to transparent and effective leadership by introducing a smaller government structure.
