Through its Wings program, which is committed to giving the next generation opportunity, elevating Michael Jordan’s legacy of greatness, and amplifying youth voices, Jordan Brand is commemorating ten years of worldwide influence.
Jordan Brand Wings is celebrating the milestone by opening a new chapter in London, establishing a new relationship in Paris, and giving scholarships to over 350 students in China, the Philippines, and the United States.
In addition, Jordan Brand is releasing a unique Wings Air Jordan 5 in honor of ten years of removing obstacles and empowering people to soar. On July 16, the anniversary silhouette was offered on SNKRS in both men’s and women’s sizes.
More than 350 students from China, the Philippines, and the United States will receive scholarships from Jordan Brand.
These initiatives demonstrate Jordan Brand’s dedication to giving young people access to education, mentoring, and inspiration in important basketball culture centers across the globe, as well as the ongoing expansion of the foundational Wings initiative.
“The Wings program 10-year anniversary is one of the milestones I am the proudest to have been a part of. To have a true legacy of greatness, it should start with education. Wings has provided opportunities to more than 4,000 scholars around the world, allowing them to take their potential to the next level and truly help shape the future.” says Howard White, VP, Jordan Brand
Inspired by Michael Jordan’s legacy of brilliance and his own passion for education and its transforming power on communities, the Wings initiative is one of Jordan Brand’s major global, social, and community impact programs.
Through programming that elevates basketball’s profile in a city that is dominated by football, the Wings’ expansion into London will advance those objectives and motivate the next generation to excel in both life and sports. The Wings initiative’s Beyond Basketball program, in collaboration with the Hoopsfix Foundation, will provide young South London hoops players with several days of athletic and educational activities.
With a focus on youth diaspora communities, the Wings initiative will collaborate with Union de la Jeunesse Internationale (UJI) in Paris to enable the organization to increase its influence in the area. The partnership intends to enable UJI to expand its work and open even more doors for young people who are frequently shut out of mainstream opportunities by funding education, mentorship, and organizational development.
“For the past decade, the Wings initiative has empowered thousands of young minds all over the world, paving a way for future leaders,” says Sarah Mensah, President, Jordan Brand. “From basketball to design, from scholars to interns, we are empowering youth to achieve greatness on their own terms.”
More than 350 Wings Scholars from 33 Chinese cities, Charlotte, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Portland, and Manila will be joining the more than 4,000 students worldwide who have benefited from the program over the last ten years. This is consistent with Jordan Brand’s pledge, made through the Wings project, to give students a path to success in college, emphasizing creative fields, teaching, coaching, and athletics.
Over the past ten years, the Wings initiative’s Intern Program has placed 36 students in internships with NIKE, Inc. worldwide, in addition to the thousands of scholarships given out through the Scholars Program. Additionally, over 1,400 students have graduated from the Wings Design Program, which acts as a springboard for young people with creative interests or goals, whether they want to go to design school, start their own business, or make goods for social change.

In addition to Jordan Brand and Nike employees, these Wings initiatives are supported by 28 international community partners who have volunteered more than 146,000 hours over the previous ten years.
They will strengthen their dedication to giving people access to high-quality education and services, especially in areas that most need them, said Cameryn Rutlin, Director of Purpose, Wings. They want to enable more than 10,000 students to pursue their goals by 2035.
