Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid was sent off for using derogatory and abusive language against a referee when his team played with Osasuna on Saturday.
The Real Madrid player says he said “f* off” instead of “f* you,” despite being accused of doing so.
He might miss 12 games as a result of this X-rated tirade against the referee, which resulted in his red card.
Referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero sent off the England player for using foul and abusive language 39 minutes into Madrid’s 1-1 draw at Osasuna.
However, Bellingham claimed that he never used derogatory language toward the referee, who accused him of saying, “F*** you.”
Bellingham justified this by claiming that he only uttered the words “f*** off” and that he even did so in frustration, not at the match official.
Carlo Ancelotti, however, maintained that the official had misinterpreted his midfielder’s words:
I believe Jude Bellingham’s English was not understood by the referee. He did not say “f* you” but rather “f* off”… It’s completely different.
Whether Real Madrid will file an appeal to have Bellingham’s red card reversed is still up in the air.
Jude Bellingham was scolded severely for using foul language against Osasuna, and he looked furious.
The 21-year-old might have to watch his teammates play for 12 games without him.
Any player found guilty of “insulting, offending, or addressing the main referee, assistants, fourth official, directors, or sports authorities in offensive terms or attitudes” faces a four- to 12-match suspension under the Spanish FA’s disciplinary code.
Bellingham will miss Madrid’s La Liga matches against Girona, Betis, and Rayo Vallecano in addition to the first leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final matchup with Real Sociedad if that ban is implemented.
Bellingham will miss the majority of the rest of the season if it is extended to the full 12 games.
As Bellingham put it:
‘Enough said about the misunderstanding. Just wanted to apologise again for leaving my teammates in such a tough position and thank the fans for their support and understanding. See you on Wednesday at home’.
Bellingham defended himself while speaking to the media after the game on Saturday.
He told reporters:
‘It’s clear that it was a mistake and there is a miscommunication. I remember the incident very well but I’ve also seen the video and the video doesn’t match the report. I don’t want to go too much in detail about what was said but it’s like a expression like “joder”.
‘I hope that the footage review can show that is not the same as the report and going forward that the federation can keep it under consideration because it’s huge evidence. Obviously we can’t change the result but I think that going forward there will be a change.’
He continued:
‘There was no insult. You can see clearly in the video. I remember the incident very well. It was an expression to myself not directed towards the referee. But obviously there was a misunderstanding of what he believes I said to him. It wasn’t an insult at all.’
