Real Madrid has finally completed a record deal for British player Bellingham from Borrusia Dortmund.
If the deal rises to £115 million, including add-ons, the England midfielder will become the most expensive player in his country. He has signed a six-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid will pay an initial £88.5m for Jude Bellingham but the deal could rise to £115m – a record deal for a British player; the England international has spent the last three years at Borussia Dortmund; Bellingham will be presented as a Real Madrid player on Thursday morning.
Bellingham Set To Be Signed By Real Madrid
After three seasons, Bellingham leaves Dortmund and was named Bundesliga Player of the Year in the most recent season.
Bellingham wrote the following in a statement he left on the Dortmund website:
“Thank you to everyone at BVB and to the fans for everything over the past three years.
“It’s been an honour to wear your jersey so many times, in big and small moments. Even though I look forward to my next destination, I will never forget the journey there. Once Borussia always Borussia. All the best for the future.”
Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke added:
“We thank Jude for three years of passion for Borussia Dortmund. It was a fantastic time together. We would also like to thank Real Madrid for the always fair and constructive discussions.”
Carlo Ancelotti of Real Madrid said that Bellingham is one of the best young midfielders in the world when he was at his best during the World Cup with England.
The Italian said, “Bellingham is one of them.” But I’ll stick with my very good midfielders, especially the youngsters.”
Even though Bellingham was one of the most sought-after midfielders heading into the summer transfer window, it served as a reminder that Real Madrid are a team with a lot of experience in that position.
