
Kate Middleton’s first post-surgery appearance with her children was withdrawn by major news agencies due to concerns of image manipulation, prompting controversy.
Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, showed up post-surgery, sharing a family portrait on Instagram. However, significant news organizations took down the picture, refering to supposed manipulation.
In the photograph, Kate, who is recovering from stomach an abdominal surgery, was seen smiling with her kids: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. However, the controversy encompassing the picture’s authenticity incited press organizations to stop its distribution.
Numerous news organizations have removed the photo including Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, following an investigation showing it “failed to meet their publication criteria,” Reuters detailed.
Kensington Palace had released the image via social media platforms. It was set close by a message of appreciation free from the Duchess, denoting her first public remarks since going through stomach surgery in January.
The image, distributed on Sunday March 10 to commemorate Mother’s Day in Britain, depicts the Duchess of Cambridge seated on a garden chair, dressed in jeans, a sweater, and a dark jacket, accompanied by her three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.
The image showed up with a message shared on X,
“Thank you for your kind wishes and continued support over the last two months. Wishing everyone a Happy Mother’s Day.” The message was signed ‘C’ for Catherine. The palace released a statement noting that Kate’s husband, Prince William, had taken the photograph “in Windsor earlier this week.”
However, concerns regarding potential manipulation prompted several news agencies to retract the image afterward.
On Sunday night, several media outlets that had at first posted the photograph released by the royal residence to announce the arrival of the princess took it off. The picture of the 42 year-old raised doubts of control or potential artificial intelligence generation. Eyewitnesses immediately saw an abnormality; in the photograph, where she seemed to have lost a part of her hand.

Upon closer examination by internet image specialists and picture experts, a hole was identified in the inside of Charlotte’s left arm, near her wrist. Instead of the expected section of her pink cardigan, there was just empty space before the knitted garment resumed covering her arm.
Major international news agencies, including Associated Press, Getty Images, Reuters, and AFP, promptly removed the picture from their archives, citing concerns of image tampering. In spite of this, Kensington Palace has not given any explanations with respect to the matter.
In response, the Associated Press reportedly sent a notification to journalists, stating, “After closer inspection, it appears that the source has manipulated the image. No replacement photo will be sent.”
Meanwhile, Kate Middleton has apologized the photo error.
