Kofi Okyere Darko, the Director of Diaspora Affairs at the Office of the President of Ghana, held a deep and motivational discussion with legendary artist Queen Asabea Cropper, a genuine Pan-African music icon, about Highlife at the Jubilee House.

The Highlife Museum and the significance of purposefully conserving and promoting Highlife music in Ghana and in the diaspora were the main topics of discussion in order to guarantee that, this invaluable cultural legacy endures for many more generations.

To celebrate and conserve Ghana’s unique musical legacy, discussions are underway to construct a museum devoted to Highlife.

Prominent members of Ghana’s music scene, like Asabea Cropper, have pushed for the establishment of a museum devoted to Highlife. Grammy-nominated artist Rocky Dawuni stressed the value of such an organization in February 2022 in order to pay tribute to Highlife icons and recognize their contributions to Ghanaian music. ​

Although the importance of conserving Ghana’s musical legacy is underscored by these private initiatives and requests for a dedicated Highlife museum, up until now, there has not been intentions to create such a museum by all successive governments.

Asabea Cropper:

One of the strong highlife vocalists who shared the stage with the late, legendary E.T. Mensah, the King of Highlife, at the State Banquet Hall in 1985 was Asabea Cropper. The merging of her Kente costumes on stage has been a hallmark of her strong and timeless craftsmanship.

In the course of her active career, she attracted the World with her looks in addition to the amazing singing technique that complements her lovely voice. With a distinct cultural history and Ghana as her top priority, she has performed all throughout the world and continues to do so.
