La Liga: Real Madrid beat Barcelona In El Clasico

The El Classic between Real Madrid and Barcelona was without a doubt going to be an exciting one, and after 90+3 minutes, Federico Valverde, Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric ensured the three points were in their ‘crate’ at the Camp Nou arena. But the ball was placed right in the corner by the experienced Spanish centre-back. The penalty came as a result of Barca’s Clement Lenglet pulling Sergio Ramos’ shirt inside the Barcelona box. Barcelona initiated a quick counter. Ansu Fati received a cross near the box and set himself up at close range. However, his shot missed the target narrowly.

Phillipe Coutinho should have given Barcelona in the 54′ minute but narrowly missed it. Ansu Fati made a wonderful move from the right and sent in a floated cross towards Coutinho, whose free header missed the target.

Phillipe Coutinho again unleashed a powerful shot on target from long distance. But the Real Madrid defence was alert. However, Barca won a set-piece, which was taken by skipper Lionel Messi. After a brief struggle, his cross was cleared away by Madrid players.

There was a double change for Barcelona in the 81′ minutes when Antoine Griezmann and Francisco Trincao came in for Ansu Fati and Sergio Busquets. Attacking substitutions from manager Ronald Koeman. Meanwhile, Rodrygo also replaced Marco Asensio for Real Madrid.

In the dying minutes of the match (90th minute), Luka Modric scored for Real Madrid just when the Catalans were going all-out attacking. And the home team has to pay the price for its over-aggressiveness. Luka Modric received the ball at the edge of the box on the counter. He was calm and composed as he dribbled past the keeper and beat two defenders on the goalline.

Barca currently occupies the ninth spot in the La Liga standings, with seven points from four games, which include two wins, a draw and a loss. The team has played two matches less than leader Real Sociedad (11 points from six outings).

On the other hand, Real is placed third, with 10 points from four games. A victory for the side from Madrid can possibly take it to the top of the points table on Saturday, with Sociedad and second-placed Villarreal (11 points) not playing until Sunday.
