The Asokore Mampong district court granted Lil Win, a well-known Kumawood actor, bail in the amount of GH₵50,000 with two sureties.
The actor is to return in court on June 27, 2024.
Lil Win was arrested on Monday, June 3 by the Manhyia Divisional police command over his contribution in a fatal accident that killed a 3-year-old.
The lethal episode happened at Amakom in Kumasi on May 25 hours before the debut of his film ‘A Country Called Ghana‘ at the KNUST hall.
The actor was immediately arrested when he was discharged from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Monday morning.
The three-year-old, Richard Nana Yaw Ampomah allegedly lost his life while getting treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Saturday, May 25 hours after the accident at Amakom in Kumasi.
Nana Yaw is reported to have been seated in the front seat of his dad’s vehicle when it crashed into LilWin’s branded Mercedes benz. Witnesses say the actor was driving at a maximum velocity when the accident happened.
Until his arrest on Monday morning, Lil Win had been receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye hospital. His manager and personal bodyguard have still been hospitalized and getting treatment.
Meanwhile, the three-year-old boy has been buried by the bereaved family while his father, Jacob Ampomah who sustained a fractured leg injury is still visiting the hospital for treatment.
In a statement issued last week, Lil Win denied claims made by the deceased’s family that he had neglected the victims of the accident and attended to his movie premiere the day after the incident. In spite of the injury maintained, the actor showed up at the debut of his film on the night the accident happened.
According to Lil Win, he was only responding to the other members of his crew who had sustained injuries.
He later apologised to the bereaved family for his “insensitive comment” and postponed his movie premiere in Sunyani to mourn with the family.
