Barça made a trip to Levante on Tuesday 11 May to face the home side in the Ciutat de Valencia arena out on a date that will be familiar to numerous fans: where FC Barcelona, on 11 May 2011, won the league title away at Levante.
After ten years, Barça was gunning for another triumph to keep their expectations alive in the race for the 2021 La Liga title. The blaugranes were third on the table, two points behind the leaders Atlético Madrid with just three games remaining.
Barcelona’s 2011 triumph against Levante was the third La Liga title in succession for Pep Guardiola’s team and was secured in the 36th round of the period in Valencia away at Levante.
Similarly as they had done six years beforehand in 2005, the blaugranes secured the title against Levante with a 1-1 draw. Keita put Barça ahead with a header in the first half before Caicedo evened out for the home side. The point was sufficient to hand Barça the La Liga title.
However, during the match against Levante on Tuesday, Barcelona blew the chance of repeating a win again at the same stadium ten years ago. The match ended 3-3, with goals from G. Melero, J. Morales, and S. Léon for Levante. Lionel Messi, Pedro and O. Dembélé were also on target for Barcelona.
With this scoreline they still remain at the 3rd position on the League table.
