Line Of Programmes For This Year’s Emancipation Day Celebrations

Under the direction of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) will organize this year’s Emancipation Day celebrations, which will run from July 22 to August 1, 2024. The goal of these celebrations is to strengthen communities for the future.

The Emancipation Day is a yearly event celebrated in Ghana to revive the fire of solidarity among people of color all over.

The Celebrations which is under the theme, “Unity And Resilience; Building Stronger Communities For A Brighter Future” was launched at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park on 4th June, 2024.

Programme of activities lined up for this year’s celebrations include:

July 22, 2024 – Commissioning Of Salaga Slave Market

July 23, 2024 – Durbar at Pikworo Slave Camp – Upper East Region

July 25, 2024 – Tribute To The Ancestors; Wreath Laying Ceremony In Accra, (Dress Code: Black/Red) at the E.B Dubois Centre and George Padmore Library

July 25, 2024 – Photo Exhibition Of The Legacy Of Prof. Efua Sutherland And Wreath Laying At Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park

July 29, 2024 – Durbar Of Chiefs At Assin Praso.

July 30, 2024 – Echoes Of Culture Celebrating Diasporan Diversity

July 31, 2024 – Reverential Night At Cape Coast

Emancipation was originally celebrated in the Caribbean to commemorate the final abolition of Chatel Slavery in the British colonies on 1st August 1834, and has become an annual event in Ghana, the Black Star of Africa, and the gateway to the Homeland of people of African descent in the Diaspora.
