Spain comes top in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking for the first time, with USA up to second. Cape Verde, Haiti, and Cambodia are also at all-time highs.
It’s over four months since the last FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking was released in August 2023. There were over 400 international matches. Never before have such countless fixtures been played in a comparable period.
Countries in the AFC, CAF and CONCACAF zones, in the mean time, were associated with qualifying matches for their various continental competitions, with OFC delegates – except for Aotearoa New Zealand – contending at the Pacific Games.
This number of events definitely affected December’s FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking of 2023.
That being said, reigning world champions Spain (1st) claimed top spot for the first time. They are the fourth team in football history to reach the coveted position, after USA (2nd, up 1), Germany and Sweden. France (3rd, up 2) make up the podium.

England (4th, unchanged) remain just below those three high-flyers, ahead of previous leaders Sweden (5th, down 4). Germany (6th), the Netherlands (7th), Japan (8th), Korea DPR (9th) and Canada (10th) complete the top ten, which no longer features Brazil (11th, down 2).
The number of teams included in the World Ranking now stands at 192, which is a new record. Two countries—Macau and the Central African Republic—appear for the first time, while four others—Korea DPR, American Samoa, Madagascar, and the Bahamas—appear for the second time. In addition, it could expand even further in March 2024 with six additional national teams only one match away from joining.
