
The new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Tourism Authority is Maame Efua Houadjeto, a former Deputy Women’s Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Mfantsiman Constituency in the 2024 elections.
She takes over from Akwasi Agyeman, who left the role on January 22, 2025. Mr. Agyeman oversaw programs like “The Year of Return” and “December in Ghana,” which greatly increased foreign travel during his time there. He was described as one of the Authority’s outstanding chief executive officers.

Ms. Houadjeto will spearhead initiatives to advance Ghana’s rich cultural legacy, grow the travel industry, and create laws meant to attract both local and international tourists. She is also expected to drive innovative initiatives to elevate Ghana’s tourism profile worldwide.
