Make Something Better Out Of The Money You Win From Betting— Mahama To The Youth

John Dramani Mahama, the flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has encouraged Ghanaian youth to ingrain financial discipline and teach the propensity for bettering their lives with the income they make.

The NDC has promised to scrap the tax on bet rewards if they win the upcoming December election.

Addressing constituents in the Bono East district as part of his campaign tour, John Mahama reaffirmed his party’s obligation to scrap bet taxes if elected as Ghana’s President.

The former President, asked the youth who are effectively associated with betting to make something significant out of the money they win to better their lives.

“We will remove the betting tax. For those who engage in betting, when you win, the government will no longer take a tax from your winnings”.

“If you win, spend your money wisely. Don’t waste it on unnecessary things—use it to improve your life in a meaningful way,” he told party supporters at Nkwabeng in the Nkoranza South constituency Saturday, September 08, 2024.

He said his administrator is as yet keen on abolishing the nuisance electronic transaction levy (E-levy) which has seen criticisms since its introduction.

He was confident taking off that tax will bring some relief to workers in the mobile money industry and boost the sector.

“We will remove the E-Levy, so when you use your mobile money to make purchases, you won’t be charged that tax anymore”

The elimination of the two taxes will provide relief to merchants of mobile money as well as betting businesses, allowing them to access their entire winnings without any deductions.
