Vitor Reis, a defender for Palmeiras, has reached an agreement in principle with Manchester City.
The 19-year-old has drawn interest from a number of other teams, but according to trustworthy sources, he is now expected to join Pep Guardiola’s team for a set price of £29.4 million, exclusive of bonuses.
After Abdukodir Khusanov, who is scheduled to arrive in the UK to finalize a £33.5 million transfer from Lens, Reis is now the second center-back expected to join the team this transfer window.
Sky Sports reveals that several teams, including Brighton in the Premier League, had obtained information on the 19-year-old, who is expected to join Pep Guardiola’s team in the January transfer window.
Leila Pereira, president of Palmeiras, stated that a deal in principle has been reached after City made an official offer for the player on Monday.
After selling a number of players to Real Madrid and Chelsea for high prices in the last 18 months, including Endrick to Real Madrid and Willian Estevao to Chelsea, Palmeiras were always at ease with the situation.
Diego, A 17-year-old “Golden Boy,” To Join Man United
Center-backs John Stones and Ruben Dias are among the players on City’s list of players sidelined in recent weeks due to a number of injury issues they have faced this season.
During his Monday pre-game press conference, Pep Guardiola stated:
“We knew at the beginning of the season that the team, in a question of time, would have 10, 11 players more than 30 years old. But the same team that are more than 30 years old, five or six months ago, won a fourth Premier League in a row. We knew that sooner or later we should have done it but what happened wasn’t expected”.
“The best way to do it is gradually but after the injuries – wow – maybe we should have done it. But you never know in that position. I think the team is really good and the squad is really, really good, otherwise we cannot have achieved what we achieved last season.”
