Man United In Talks To Appoint Ruben Amorim As Their New Boss

Ruben Amorim

Man United has approached Sporting about appointing head coach Ruben Amorim as their new boss.

After the Dutchman was fired, discussions about who would succeed Erik ten Hag, who is 39 years old, are already underway.

United, according to reports, would be required to pay Amorim’s release clause.

Following Erik Ten Hag’s departure, Ruben Amorim is likely to be a replacement.

This season, Sporting have a perfect record at the top of the Portuguese league, winning all nine games, scoring 30 goals, and only allowing two goals.

Amorim’s team, on the other hand, is undefeated in the Champions League, winning two of their three games to finish eighth.

On his future, Amorim stated,

“I am not going to speak about my future because no matter what I say, I would always have to talk about it. “Since the first day, I said it was not worthy to ask about it and I am not going to make any comments about my future. I am very proud of being Sporting head coach.”

He had been mentioned as a possible manager of Manchester City in recent weeks. Sporting’s close friend Hugo Viana is set to move to the blue half of Manchester as the club’s new director of football next season.

However, on October 17, 2024, Ruben Amorim addressed rumors that he might move to Manchester City with Hugo Viana.

Prior to Arne Slot’s appointment, Amorim had been in the running to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool in the summer.

Additionally, he discussed the possibility of succeeding David Moyes at West Ham before later apologizing for the timing and publicity of the London talks.

At 36 years old, Amorim led Sporting to a first league title in quite a while in 2021 and later won his second with the club last season.

In addition, he has won the Portuguese League Cup, the Taca da Liga, three times, twice with Sporting and once with Braga.

Amorim, a former midfielder for Portugal and Benfica, retired from playing in 2017 and began his managerial career at Braga just two years later.

After that, in March 2020, he joined Sporting, where he quickly became one of Europe’s most sought-after young coaches.

Despite the fact that sources insist an announcement regarding the new permanent manager is not imminent, Amorim has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed Ten Hag at Man Utd.

Although advanced discussions have not been denied by any of the parties involved, no deal has yet been reached.

Amorim is currently one of Europe’s most sought-after young coaches, and United isn’t the only club interested.

United will have to pay €10 million (£8.3 million) to acquire him, and Sporting had to pay a significant release clause in order to acquire him in the first place.

United must abide by PSR regulations and must compensate Erik ten Hag, so there is speculation that they will have to pay him around £15 million.
