After Wesley Fofana’s injury, Chelsea is considering bringing defender Marc Guéhi back to Stamford Bridge.
The Selhurst Park club is reportedly aware of Chelsea’s interest and has been negotiating a possible swoop this month.
The Blues are prepared to add a new central defender, and calling up Trevoh Chalobah from his Palace loan is one possibility.
Guéhi is one of the names near the top of Palace’s list, but they are also open to joining the transfer market.
Palace is losing control of their central defender’s future, and Guéhi only has 18 months left on his deal.
Guéhi was valued by Palace at about £70 million in the summer, but if he can sign a pre-contract deal with a foreign team in less than a year, the asking price might have decreased.
Chalobah, incidentally, could be used as a substitute by Chelsea in the deal for Guéhi.
The fact that Chelsea has a sell-on clause of 17–20 percent after selling the 24-year-old to Palace in 2021 would further complicate any move to Stamford Bridge for Guehi.
If Chelsea were the purchasing club, it’s unclear how that clause would be activated.
Given that their American owners are moving away from offering large compensation packages, Chelsea would also need to think about how a move for Guéhi would fit into their wage structure.
Guéhi would probably demand a weekly salary of about £170,000.

After suffering a hamstring injury during Chelsea’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa in December, Fofana has denied rumors that he will miss the remainder of the season.
The incredible defender has been a key member of Oliver Glasner’s squad so far since temporarily joining the Selhurst Park club during the summer transfer window.
